Cardio you can measure without a heart-rate strap
Steps and heart rate are fine metrics, but for bodyweight cardio the simplest number is the honest one: how many reps did you do? Hughie counts jumping jacks in real time by tracking your arms and legs through the camera — full extension out, full return in, one rep. String together 50, 100, or 500 and every single one is logged.
Because jacks are counted live, they slot perfectly into circuits: push-ups, then squats, then a jack burnout — chained round after round in one tracked session with zero manual input. And that's just one combination; jacks mix with any of Hughie's 15 tracked movements, from high knees and side bends to split squats and planks.
How to count jumping jacks in Hughie
- Give yourself a little room. Step back so the camera sees your full wingspan — jacks are the widest movement Hughie tracks.
- Start a live session and choose Jumping Jacks. The AI locks onto your pose and counts down.
- Jump. Reps are announced as you go, so you can watch a point on the wall instead of your screen and keep your rhythm.
- Stack it into a circuit. Hughie's circuit workouts let you chain jacks with push-ups, squats, planks, high knees, and any of the rest of the 15-exercise library for a complete no-equipment conditioning session.
Why counted cardio beats timed cardio at home
"Do jumping jacks for two minutes" invites coasting. "Do 60 jumping jacks" is a target you either hit or don't — and watching the live counter climb turns a boring exercise into a game. Hughie leans into that: daily challenges frequently feature jack targets, completed reps earn coins toward accessories for your companion, and your weekly streak counts the session toward your goal.

Jumping jack counter FAQ
How much space do I need?
Enough to extend your arms fully with your whole body in frame — and staying in frame through the movement. A typical living room or bedroom is plenty.
Does it count half jacks or low-impact jacks?
No — tracking is tuned for the real thing: arms overhead, feet out. Modified and low-impact variants won't count as live reps, but you can always log them manually.
Can I do jumping jacks as part of a bigger workout?
Yes — circuit workouts chain them with any of Hughie's 15 tracked exercises, from push-ups and squats to high knees and planks, in one continuous tracked session.
